10 Girl Names Rising Fastest in the US (2020 โ 2024)
The girl side of the chart shifted even more dramatically than the boys' over the last four years. The fastest-rising girl name jumped from outside the top 1,800 all the way into the top 101. Here's the leaderboard.
The list
- Ailany โ from #1,829 in 2020 to #101 in 2024 (+1,728 spots). Easily the biggest rank jump in the whole dataset over those four years. The spelling is a modern phonetic respelling โ you'll also see Aileny, Eilany, Ilany.
- Scottie โ from #1,331 to #202 (+1,129). The "-ie" diminutive surname names (Frankie, Charlie, Sadie, Maisie) have been a steady trend; Scottie joined the wave.
- Wrenley โ from #895 to #149 (+746). A blend of "Wren" (which is itself rising) and the "-ley" suffix that's been popular for a decade (Harley, Ainsley, Brinley).
- Alora โ from #599 to #225 (+374). Bright, vowel-heavy, three syllables โ fits the modern profile cleanly.
- Lainey โ from #366 to #38 (+328). One of only two names on this list to break the top 50, alongside an artist-driven country music halo effect.
- Antonella โ from #558 to #233 (+325). Italian, four syllables, melodic. Tracks with the broader rise of Italian girls' names in the US.
- Alanna โ from #560 to #289 (+271). The double-N spelling is leading the family (Alana, Alannah, Alanah are all on the chart).
- Celine โ from #459 to #227 (+232). French, two syllables, with a strong cultural anchor.
- Hallie โ from #374 to #148 (+226). Another "-ie" name, vintage feel, easy to spell.
- Daphne โ from #415 to #192 (+223). Mythology + Greek origin + a recent boost from popular TV characters.
What's driving the moves?
A few patterns:
- Phonetic respellings (Ailany, Wrenley) make a name feel custom while keeping it pronounceable.
- Vintage diminutives (Scottie, Lainey, Hallie) are still the dominant girl-name aesthetic.
- Mediterranean picks (Antonella, Celine, Daphne) are quietly outpacing the long-running Scandinavian trend.
Only Lainey broke the top 50 in 2024 โ the rest are all in the 100โ300 range. Names this far down the chart can move fast; the same Ailany move on the boys' side would have been ten times harder because boys' charts churn slower.
